Classification of different types of acne
Acne vulgaris is the most common and most common form of acne. It is usually a combination of closed comedones (whiteheads), open comedones (blackheads), papules and pustules, and sometimes nodules. This type of acne is common in teenagers, affecting about 80% of the population between the ages of 12 and 24. Clinical acne vulgaris is also classified according to its severity and type of lesions in the following groups: comedone acne, papulopustular acne, conglobata acne (severe form with cysts, nodules on the face and body).
Acne neonatorum affects newborns and manifests itself through comedones, papules and rarely pustules, immediately after birth. The reason for its appearance is the passage of androgens from the mother's body through the placenta. It passes quickly and leaves no scars. It often does not need therapy.
Acne infantum is observed in infants between 3 and 6 months of age and is often associated with the introduction of infant formula. The duration of acne is longer than in newborns and sometimes scars remain. Topical antibiotic therapy is usually required. In case of non-response, a consultation with a pediatric endocrinologist is appropriate.
Mechanical acne occurs in people prone to acne, in which there is some external factor. It is often found on the back and décolleté of athletes wearing occlusive clothing. Friction factors and increased sweating disrupt the integrity of the hair follicle and provoke the disease. A classic and unfortunately very current example of mechanical acne at the moment is the appearance of maskne.
Acne in bodybuilders. It is obviously found in men who train actively to achieve a certain appearance. In addition to training, however, achieving their goal goes through anabolics, which stimulate powerful sebum production.
Less common forms of acne
Acne excoriee occurs mainly in young women who are constantly aggressively evacuating their comedones and papules. They usually use their fingernails or some tool to the point of injury. Crusts (crusts) form, leaving scars and hyperpigmentation. These are usually people with varying degrees of anxiety and a multidisciplinary approach is appropriate for them.
Acne fulmminans is a rare and acute disease characterized by the sudden appearance of nodules and abscesses on the face and body, high fever and joint pain. These patients are treated in a hospital setting by rheumatologists in collaboration with a dermatologist.
Acne venenata, also called contact acne. It is observed in people with oily skin who are exposed to comedogenic substances from their professional environment. An example of such acne is cosmetic acne in women who choose the wrong cosmetics or make face and hair masks with oils and lipsticks.
Chloracne is a toxic skin reaction to polychlorinated dibenzofurans and polychlorinated dibenzodioxins. Usually lesions of the type of acne conglomerate develop, affecting the face, trunk, limbs. Depending on the dose, systemic symptoms with potential for lethal outcome also develop. In 2004, chloracne became the subject of serious discussions about the poisoning of Viktor Yushchenko.
